Archibalds Drive Inn Bar-B-Que

Welcome!  Thanks for stopping by.  Today’s dining stop is a little BBQ shack called Archibalds Drive Inn Bar-B-Que located in Northport Al. just across the river from Tuscaloosa.  They must be doing something right…they’ve been around since 1962.  To me what makes them unique is that Archibalds is located in the backyard of their house.

I thought I would let my good friend Shannon give you a first visit perspective on the Archibalds experience.

“For years, my friend Bill has been flabbergasted that I had never been to Archibald’s BBQ in Northport even though I attended the University of Alabama, and visited Tuscaloosa/Northport many times since graduation.  Not that surprising really. This barbecue joint is definitely off the beaten path; but well worth searching out when you find yourself in the area.  As Bill and I entered, I was now the flabbergasted one.  I was astonished at how small it was inside.  Only four barstools for customers.  And I sat on the stool directly across the bar from the pit.  Near enough to be struck by the pit fork as the cook moves the meat around on the pit.  This is the first restaurant I have visited where I feared being struck by a cooking utensil.  Fortunately, this didn’t happen.  In fact, I was glad we sat close enough to the pit to feel its heat and smell the ribs it produced.  The best I’ve ever had.  I can’t wait to go back.  It’s a true Alabama barbeque experience.”

Thanks Shannon !  These ribs are wonderful.  They have just the right amount of “pull” to them and the sauce is a vinegar and mustard based concoction.  For a great article published by the Southern BBQ Trail here’s the link:  http://bit.ly/b6kpn7

Thanks, Bill! My daughter went to UA for 4 years and I never knew about Archibalds. Can’t wait for her to come home for Christmas so we both can try it!
